Abstract

       The research is entitled (The ability to understand text among university students), students of Salahaddin University, College of Language, Department of Kurdish Language for the academic year (2021-2022) were taken as an example. Comprehension is a key principle and a main goal in the reading process indeed. Nowadays, lack of understanding of reading in the educational process is a problem for many students, that was one of the reasons for choosing this topic for the research. To achieve research results relies on descriptive approach of analysis. The aim of this study is to determine the ability of university students to understand texts and answer several questions: What is the level of text understanding ability of university students – Kurdish department? Is there a connection between reading speed and comprehension ability? Is there a connection between gender (male, female) and comprehension ability? The results showed that the comprehensibility among the students of the Kurdish department of the College of Language is at a very good level and there is no relationship between reading speed and comprehension ability, and
