Abstract

After killing Geumat/Bardiya, Darius sat on the throne of Achaemenid governance in 522 B.C., most of the nations
under the Persian’s rule revolted against him so that two out of nine uprisings against Darius took place in Babylon
during the first two years of his dominion. Among the rebel nations, the Babylonians were the first to rise against
After several years of suppressing the previous rebellions, two more rebellions occurred in the early years of Darius.
Xerxes’ reign. For this reason, in this research, relying on the Bisotun text and the Babylon cuneiform text as well as
new resources, research has been done on the first uprisings during the reign of Darius and Xerxes. First, the events
of the uprising have been studied and analyzed, afterward; the reasons for the beginning of the uprising and their
outcomes have been discussed and analyzed. At the end, unlike some other popular opinions, in this study it is shown
was political-national and for independence. that the uprising against the Achaemenids
